To commemorate the 25th anniversary of India-Tajik Diplomatic Relations and the 70th anniversary of Independence of India, Embassy of India organized a seminar on 'Bedil Dehlavi in the Land of Tajiks' on 5 December 2017 at Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan. The seminar was attended by several prominent Tajik experts on Bedil including Ms. Nasiba Sadikova, Member of Tajik Parliament, Mohamad Abdur Rahmon, Vice-President of Academy of Sciences, Dr. Sattorzoda of Academy of Sciences and Prof. Rajabov, President, India-Tajik Friendship Society and other scholars and academicians, who have studied the life and works of Bedil in great detail. A book titled 'Life of Bedil' written by Prof. Bobobek Rahimi and published by India-Tajikistan Friendship Society and Embassy of India was released on the occasion.

Ambassador Shri Somnath Ghosh addressed the seminar and said that Mirza Abdul Qadir Bedil Dehlavi is the most prominent representative of Indian style of Persian poetry. Bedil was a man of great learning and a true symbol of composite culture of India. He was tolerant of all faiths and religious persuasions. He believed in unity of existence, a thought process synonymous with Indian philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which means that the entire world is one family. Bedil’s mystical and passionate ghazals are among the best in the Indo-Persian tradition. While it may not be possible to interpret Bedil’s poetry and philosophy to its full extent, yet seminars do help us to delve deeper and open new windows in understanding Bedil’s work and life.

During the academic sessions of the seminar, seven prominent Tajik academicians presented their research papers on Bedil’s poetry and its influence in strengthening cultural relations between India and Tajikistan. A short concert on Bedil’s songs was presented on the occasion by the students of Indian Cultural Centre, Dushanbe.
