Tajikistan issues Commemorative Stamps to mark 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

On 08 Nov 2019, Republic of Tajikistan issued a set of four commemorative stamps to mark the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The stamps were unveiled at National Museum of Tajikistan by H.E. Mr. Shamsiddin Orumbekzoda, Minister of Culture, Ms. Abdurahmonzoda Adolat, Deputy Head of Communication Service and Mr. Viraj Singh, Ambassador of India to Tajikistan.

H.E. Mr Shamsiddin Orumbek Zoda, the Minister of Culture, in his address recalled the historical ties of India and Tajikistan and said that they share common culture. He added that it was gratifying to release stamp commemorating Mahatma Gandhi, who was a torch bearer of peace for entire humanity. He expressed hoped that world would remember Mahatma Gandhi by following his principles.  Mr. Viraj Singh noted that Mahatma Gandhi influenced many leaders of the world including among them Nelson Mandela of South Africa, in their struggle for freedom.

An exhibition titled 'My life is my message' on the life and work of Mahatma Gandhi was also inaugurated by the Minister of Culture at the museum.  The exhibition attracted large number of Tajik youths.
