Celebration of 3rd International Day of Yoga in Tajikistan

Embassy of India, Dushanbe celebrated the 3rd International Day of Yoga in the open lawns of Ismailia Centre, Dushanbe on 17 June 2017. The function was attended by more than 300 people including Tajik yoga enthusiasts, local government representatives, members of India -Tajik Friendship Society, students of ‘Tojikiston Yoga Association IRODA’, representatives of diplomatic missions, students of Indian Cultural Centre, members of Indian community and staff members of the Embassy. A few celebrities of Tajikistan including Head of Wrestling Federation, two Tajik actors and one body building champion also attended the function.  H. E. Mr. Kamolzoda Mirhamuddin, Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of Tajikistan was the Chief Guest.

Ambassador Shri Somnath Ghosh made the welcome remarks and thanked the audience for their enthusiastic participation in the celebration. He gave an overview of the health benefits of yoga and encouraged the participants to make it a part of their daily routine. Tajik Deputy Minister congratulated the people on the occasion and said that increasing number of people in Tajikistan are benefitting from this ancient practice. He added that Tajikistan was co-sponsor of India’s proposal for adoption of UN resolution declaring 21 June as the International Day of Yoga. He wished the participants good health, happiness and prosperity.

The main yoga session was led by Mrs. Umeda Pirmatova, Yoga Teacher, Indian Cultural Centre, which  included Surya Namaskar, Common Yoga Protocol and Pranayama. This was followed by demonstration of advanced yoga postures by Mr. Abduvahob Muhammad Sobir, 83-year old Yoga Master & President of Tojikiston Yoga Association “IRODA”.
