Celebration of 71st Independence Day of India in Tajikistan

Embassy of India, Dushanbe celebrated the 70th anniversary of India’s independence on 15th August 2017 with patriotic fervor. The morning function began with unfurling of national flag by the Ambassador followed by reading out of President’s message to the nation on the eve of India’s 71stIndependence Day. This was followed by a short cultural programme by the students of Indian Cultural Centre, Dushanbe, which included singing of patriotic songs and a performance of Indian classical and bollywood dances. The function was attended by more than 130 people including members of Indian community and Tajik friends of India.

2        Ambassador hosted a reception in the evening at Hotel Sheraton which was attended by representatives of various Ministries and Agencies of Government of Tajikistan, diplomatic corps, think tanks, Academic Institutions, members of Indian community and Tajik friends of India. Foreign Minister of Tajikistan H.E. Mr. Sirodjiddin Aslov was the chief guest.  About 200 people attended the reception.

3.       Ambassador addressed the gathering and spoke about India’s achievements in the last 70 years and its contribution to world peace and economic development. He expressed happiness at the current state of bilateral relations with Tajikistan and pointed out the recent expansion of bilateral strategic partnership to newer areas.  In his address, Tajik Foreign Minister congratulated India on behalf of the Government of Tajikistan and said that India has effectively utilized all the opportunities that came its way during 70 years of its freedom and made substantive achievements in various fields.  He said that India-Tajikistan relations have expanded over the years and have gradually covered newer areas of mutual cooperation. He particularly noted the achievements of the last two years and said that the two countries have intensified efforts to ensure regional stability and fight against global challenges like terrorism, which are at the core of bilateral security and defence partnership. He hoped that trade and investment relations will expand through the joint efforts of the two countries.
