Ambassador Viraj Singh

 Ambassador Viraj Singh took charge as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Republic of Tajikistan on 29 June 2019. He presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Tajikistan on 31 July 2019. Prior to this, Ambassador Singh served as the Joint Secretary (Establishment) at Ministry of External Affairs of India.

He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1997 and has served on diplomatic assignments in Indian Embassies in Tehran and Dushanbe, and as Deputy Chief of Mission in Embassy of India, Kabul. During his assignment in Kabul he worked extensively on India’s developmental assistance projects in Afghanistan including overseeing the completion Indian-Afghanistan Friendship Dam (Salma Dam) and the new Afghan Parliament Complex in Kabul.

Throughout his career, Ambassador Viraj Singh has served in various capacities at the Headquarters of Ministry of External Affairs in North America, Central Europe and Public Diplomacy Divisions. As Director (Projects) he was involved in occupation and operationalization of Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan, the new headquarters of the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.

Ambassador Viraj Singh completed his Bachelor of Technology from IIT Kanpur in 1992 and Post Graduate Diploma in Management (equivalent to MBA) from IIM Ahmadabad in 1994. Prior to joining Foreign Service, he worked for a very brief period as a Financial Analyst with ICICI Ltd. in Mumbai.

Ambassador Singh’s interests include travel, music and cinema. He is proficient in Persian, Tajik and Dari besides Hindi & English.
