Recognition of Deepavali by UNESCO

The Embassy of India in Dushanbe, together with the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, proudly celebrated the historic recognition of Deepavali as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

Deepavali, also known as Diwali, is one of India’s most cherished festivals, celebrated by diverse individuals and communities across the country and the world. Known as the Festival of Lights, it symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil.

This global recognition of Deepavali highlights the universal values of harmony, while highlighting India’s rich cultural heritage and its contribution to the shared heritage of humanity.
