On 16 December, 2021 India and Tajikistan signed an agreement on Indian grant assistance for implementation of High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP) in Tajikistan.
Similar agreements have been signed with the other four Central Asian Countries. Under the Agreement, the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Tajikistan will propose projects whose cost does not exceed TJS 16.94 Million (Approximately USD 1.5 Million) each for implementation as Government of India grant in aid projects.
The projects shall relate chiefly to socio-economic development, livelihood support, empowerment of women, child welfare and facilitation of community life, particularly through creation of infrastructure in the education, health, training, agriculture and agro-industry, micro-irrigation, renewable energy, trade, transport and communications sectors.
The HICDP will directly contribute to improving the quality of life of the people of Tajikistan and demonstrate India’s commitment to the well-being and prosperity of its Tajik brothers and sisters.
In addition to the agreement signed today, India is also executing Phase I of an 8-land highway project from Chortut village to Ayni roundabout in Dushanbe at a cost of approximately USD 17.54 million. This also is a grant in aid project. About 35% of the work has been completed so far withbalance 65% of the work to be completed by October, 2022.
