Celebration of the 79th Independence Day of India

The Embassy of India in Dushanbe celebrated the 79th Independence Day of India today at the Chancery premises with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm. The ceremony commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag (‘Tiranga’) by the Ambassador of India, Mr. Rajesh Uike, followed by the singing of the National Anthem, Jana Gana Mana.

The Ambassador read excerpts from the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu’s ‘Address to the Nation’, delivered on the eve of Independence Day. The President emphasised that August 15 is a date etched in our collective memory, when generations of Indians—men and women, young and old—dreamt of independence and strove to throw off the yoke of foreign rule. She paid homage to all freedom fighters whose sacrifices won India its independence 78 years ago.

The President highlighted country’s economic progress, achieving self-reliance, maintaining steady GDP growth, expanding infrastructure, strengthening defence capabilities, and leading in digital payments and technology. She also paid tribute to the victims of Partition on Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas (Partition Horrors Remembrance Day), urged environmental protections, and called upon all citizens to contribute towards making India a developed nation by 2047.

The students of Swami Vivekanand Cultural Centre presented patriotic songs and Indian dance performances during the celebration. The visiting ICCR cultural troupe from Kolkata also performed the dance ballet Vande Matram on the occasion. The event was attended by members of the Indian community, friends of India in Tajikistan, and Embassy officials, reflecting the deep bonds of friendship between the two countries. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to all guests and participants for making the celebration a grand success.

As part of the ongoing Independence Day celebrations, the Kolkata-based Sapphire Creations Dance Company—a 12-member ICCR-sponsored cultural troupe led by choreographer Sudarshan Chakravorty—will perform in various cities of Tajikistan from August 15–22, 2025. Their production, Atithi Devo Bhava: Celebrating Bharat, will showcase India’s folk traditions and festivals. Performances will take place in Dushanbe, Bokhtar, and Istaravshan, celebrating the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
