77th Foundation Day of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations celebrated in Dushanbe

The Embassy of India in Dushanbe, along with the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), celebrated the 77th Foundation Day of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations on 09 April 2026 at the Tajik State Pedagogical University, Dushanbe.

The event brought together students, academicians, ICCR alumni, members of the Indian community, and friends of India in Tajikistan, reflecting the growing cultural and educational engagement between the two countries.

The programme commenced with the National Anthems of Tajikistan and India, followed by remarks from H.E. Mr. Rajesh Uike, Ambassador of India to Tajikistan, and Mr. Ahliddin Ibodulozoda, Rector of the Tajik State Pedagogical University. In his address, the Ambassador highlighted ICCR’s significant role over the past 77 years in promoting cultural diplomacy, educational exchanges, and people-to-people ties. The Rector appreciated the longstanding academic and cultural cooperation between India and Tajikistan.

A special segment featured ICCR scholars and alumni sharing their experiences of studying in India, offering valuable insights into the transformative impact of educational exchanges and the enduring people-to-people connections fostered through ICCR initiatives.

The cultural segment of the programme presented a rich and diverse showcase of Indian artistic traditions and their growing resonance in Tajikistan. The performances included a yoga demonstration, classical and semi-classical dance presentations, instrumental and vocal music, as well as group performances by students of the Cultural Centre. The programme also featured performances by winners of cultural competitions organized by SVCC across disciplines such as music and dance, reflecting the enthusiastic participation of local youth in Indian cultural activities.

A special musical performance by Ms. Piruza Tohir, a well-known Tajik artist trained in India, further underscored the deep cultural linkages nurtured through ICCR’s initiatives.

The event concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony recognizing participants and competition winners, followed by a vote of thanks.

The celebration reaffirmed the shared commitment of India and Tajikistan to further strengthen cultural ties, educational exchanges, and people-to-people connections.
